Yr2 Bog Baby
Lesson: English
Class: Year 2 Year: 2014 - 2015
Our second topic this term is 'Our World' and focuses on looking closely at the environment around us. Children first went on a treasure hunt around the school to collect clues to find out the title of our new topic. Following this we had a knowledge harvest sharing what we know about the world around us.
The next day we planned to go on a walk around Blacon to identity features of our local environment. However just as we were leaving Ms Dowling shared an important letter with us from Cheshire Council which explained that an unidentified creature had been spotted about Blacon and children were to be extra vigilant! On our walk we looked carefully for the creature and found some possible clues. When we arrived at the Eco garden we found a screwed up note that talked about unknown creatures found in Bluebell Woods.
Upon our return to school we’ googled’ Bluebell Wood and found images of an enchanted woods. We then began to describe what we could see in the photographs using prepositional phrases, adjectives and similes. As a class we decided that we wanted to find out more about this mysterious creature so agreed to create our own Bluebell Woods in our role play area.
The next day we found another note in the playground which explained that within Bluebell Wood their lived a 'Bog baby'. Unfortunately Miss Martin's laptop had ran out of battery so before ‘googling’ this creature we used the description given to make play dough models of what we thought it might look like. Eventually Miss Martin's laptop gained power and we located a photograph of a Bog Baby!
We are now busy making mod roc Bog Baby models! Watch this space!
